Industrial Metaverse Buiding Blocks

  • In the industrial realm, the Metaverse has paved the way for a single source of truth - a centralized data lake that serves as a repository for all relevant and actionable information. This data lake enables real-time access to critical data and ensures that all stakeholders are working with accurate, relevant and up-to-date information. With this unified approach, businesses can achieve digital continuity across various processes and systems. One of the key benefits of the Metaverse is its ability to facilitate model-based simulations. By leveraging 3D technologies and artificial intelligence (AI), industries can create virtual representations of physical systems or processes. These simulations allow for accurate testing, scenario planning, optimization, and analysis before implementing changes in reality. This not only saves time and resources but also minimizes risks associated with traditional trial-and-error methods.

Furthermore, the integration of extended realities within the Metaverse opens up new possibilities for immersive experiences and enhanced collaboration. Virtual Reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies enable users to interact with digital models in a more intuitive manner. Teams can collaborate remotely in shared virtual spaces, breaking down geographical, language, and shared content barriers while fostering creativity and innovation.

Starting with the basis of Model-Based Systems Engineering, the book is structured in six building blocks (chapters) that give the reader the process needed to understand how to create and support industrial activities using immersive technology. In such a perspective, interesting expert interviews are collected in the Appendix, in which the reader can find several players' experiences that made their primary mission to deploy the building blocks of the metaverse in their organization.

    • To build a clear understanding and guide on how model-based system development focused on XR can help individuals and companies implement the technology successfully.

    • To understand the benefits (RoI) and challenges of deploying XR in an enterprise. To see industrial examples of application of XR tech, not just as interesting stories to inspire but giving templated and advice to reproduce success in their organizations

    • To understand how AI technology can benefit immersive experiences

    • The help the reader to create a vision and roadmap to engage stakeholders in blend of MBSE and XR

    • To get a better understanding on how this XR/MBSE technology can help reduce complexity and increase efficiency in system engineering / product development.

  • ALESSANDRO MIGLIACCIO, CEng: graduated in Space Systems Engineering at Delft University of Technology, currently working as a Systems Engineering Development Leader at Airbus. Expert in mixed reality technology and aspiring futurist, with more than ten years of work experience in aeronautical companies in several countries, he has led data analytics projects aimed at the optimization and tailoring of maintenance programs of airplanes. A Chartered Engineer from the Royal Aeronautical Society, he is passionate about refining his skills by finding new ways to improve team work with new paradigms based on professional fulfillment, nurturing of talents and democratization of niche technologies. To this aim he founded AIShed - Neuronet Blog as an association of voluntary talents dedicated to outreach and research. LEGO builder and drone pilot, he enjoys volunteering work as STEM ambassador and practicing mindfulness.

MARK SAGE: is the CEO of Sagey11 Ltd, a consultancy company helping startups, scaleups and large companies develop strategies and go to market plans to benefit from Enterprise Augmented Reality (AR) technology. An MBA qualified entrepreneur, Mark is also the Executive Director of the Augmented Reality Enterprise Alliance (AREA) the only global, membership-funded non-profit alliance dedicated to helping accelerate the adoption of Enterprise Augmented Reality (AR) by supporting the growth of a comprehensive ecosystem, as well as a subject matter expert for AR at MIT Horizons and at the Digital Engineering Technology & Innovation (DETI) project.  He enjoys mentoring startups and new CEO’s and guest lecturing at various universities across the world on the benefits and how to successfully deploy enterprise AR solutions.

GIOVANNI IANNONE: graduated in Mechanical Engineering for Design and Manufacturing at “Università degli Studi di Napoli”, and was awarded a Master in Systems Engineering at MS&T (U.S.). Expert in aeronautical structures and continuous airworthiness on large airplanes, with more than ten years of work experience in state departments. He has taken a critical interest in the decision making process by different mathematical approaches. Member of INCOSE for several years, he presented at ASEC2014 on decision making algorithms in the sport business.
